Johann Friedrich Bohnstedt

M, bn: 1782, Germany / d: 1839, Mar 21, Bernburg, Germany (Duchy of Bernburg, Germany) // m: 1819, Jun 10, Bernburg, Germany, to Anna Margaretha Rehfeld / bn: 1791, prob. Germany / d: 1841, Apr 16, Bernburg, Germany

Children: *1
1. Johann Wilhelm Ludwig (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1830, Bernburg, Germany / (see
2-3-1000 ↓ )

*1. Given that Johann Wilhelm Ludwig was born in 1830, when his father, Johann Friedrich, was already 48 years old, Johann Friedrich Bohnstedt and his wife Anna doubtless had other children.  We simply havent found the records for these children yet.

Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Bohnstedt / (see 2-3-0900 ↑ )

M, bn: 1830, Aug 4, Bernburg, Germany / p: Barber. Also a Poultry dealer in Hjørring / i: Emigrated to Denmark / d: 1910, Mar 8, Hjørring, Denmark // m: 1853 Sep 3, Kiel, Germany to Johanne Augusta Poulsen *1 / bn: 1833-34, May 8, Eckernforde near Kiel / d: 1884, Jul 6, Hjørring, Denmark

Children: *2

2. Ernst Frederik Carl (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1857, Lemvig, Denmark / (see

3. Sophie Frederikke Detleffine (Bohnstedt) / F, bn: 1858, Lemvig, Denmark / (see

4. Heinrich Gotfried (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1859, Dec 23, Lemvig, Denmark / d: 1860 Mar 31, Lemvig-Heldum Pastorat, Lemvig Sogn, Denmark
5. Louise Henriette (Bohnstedt) / F, bn: 1862, Thisted, Denmark / (see
2-3-1999 ↓ )
6. Johan Gotfred Carl (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1863, Thisted, Denmark / (see

7. Charlotte Amalie (Bohnstedt) / F, bn: 1865, Thisted, Denmark / (see
2-3-8000 ↓ )
8. Otto Adolf (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1867, May 21, Thisted, Denmark *5 / d: before 1880
9. Otto Nikolaj (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1869, Feb 5, Hjørring, Denmark / i: Immigrated to America, Chicago Illinois / d: 1950, Chicago, Illinois *4
10. Emma Elise (Elisabeth) (Bohnstedt) / F, bn: 1871, Hjørring, Denmark / (see
2-3-9000 ↓ )
11. Elvine Sophie (Bohnstedt) / F, bn: 1873, Nov 27, Hjørring, Denmark *5
12. Christian Tolvgaard (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1876, Aug 12, Hjørring, Denmark *5 / d: before 1880

*1. There are two different records with different dates for Ludwig's marriage to Johanne Augusta Poulsen.  A genealogical chart prepared for the Bohnstedt-Petersen family by a genealogist shows a date of Sep 3, 1853, in Kiel Germany.  But a record found in Familysearch.org as well as Ancestry.com says that they married on April 25, 1856 in Lemvig, Denmark.  The first date in 1853 would make sense when compared to the date of birth of their first child in 1854 in Kiel, Germany.  However, the alternate date of 1856 would make sense when compared to the birth of their third child in 1854 in Lemvig, Denmark.  So far I've found no rational explanation for this difference.  But since Ancestry.com provides no documentation for the alternate date of 1856 I am inclined to go with the 1853 date, and presume that the 1856 date may have been an error transcription from whatever source was used.
*2.
According to a 1901 Danish census found by Thorkil Svendsen (a great-grandson of Louise Henriette Bohnstedt), Johann Wilhelm Ludvig and Johanne Augusta had a total of 14 children; 8 living and 6 dead. If true this logic must be followed: It is established that the first six children, as well as Otto Nikolaj and Emma Elise all lived well past 1901. Therefore, Otto Adolf, Elvine Sophie and Christian Tolvgaard must have all died before 1901. They may have died young. This also means that Johann Wilhelm and Johanne Augusta must have had three other children whose names are not known.
*3.  The circumstances and date of Heinrich's birth are puzzling. Because we knew Heinrich was born in 1854 in Kiel, we assumed that his father, Ludwig, must have married Johanne Auguste Poulsen in 1854 or earlier. Indeed, a chart compiled by a professional genealogist shows a date of 1853 for the marriage for the two (see Note 2).  The record of Heinrich's birth shows that someone marked up the original record (which appears to say "1854") so that it appears to say "1864"; 10 years later. However, this makes even less sense because it would mean that Ludwig and Johanne had lived in Thisted, Denmark for several years, had gone back to Kiel, Germany, briefly, where Heinrich was born, and then relocated again back to Thisted, Denmark.  The issue seems to be settled by an 1880 census record from Denmark.  This record clearly lists the parents (Ludwig and Johanne Auguste), along with their frst nine children.  The oldest child; Heinrich Friedrich Bohnstedt is listed with an age of 25 years, putting his year of birth at about 1854-1855.
*4. Documents indicate that that
Otto Nikolaj Bohnstedt went to America, to Chicago, and made a large amount of money. He was unmarried and had no children, and upon his death left his fortune to various surviving family members; mostly nieces and nephews. This story is still told by descendants of the relatives of Otto Nikolaj Bohnstedt.
*5. Otto Adolf, Elvine Sophie and Christian Tolvgaard would have been 13, 7, and 4 years old, respectively.  However, they do not appear at all in an 1880 Danish census, suggesting that they died young, before 1880.
