Regarding Charles Bohnstedt's middle name; Some anecdotal information from family sources gave Charles' middle initial as "O", and had been listed as such in the 1998 Printed Edition. But on documents more recently recovered, including a death certificate for a baby girl born to Charles, a draft registration for his son Carl, and a death certificate for Charles himself, his middle initial clearly appears to be "D". Listing Charles's middle name as Daniel is an educated guess based on the following: (a) Two of Charles' sons, Obaed and Herbert (from two different mothers) both carried the middle name "Daniel", (b) The father of Charles' mother, Anna Poff, was named Daniel Poff, (c) A U.S. government, Social Security Administration list of popular names from the 1880's lists only two names beginning with "D" in the top 100. "David" ranks # 20, and "Daniel" ranks # 31. Given that two of Charles' sons carry the middle name of Daniel, and that Charles' maternal grandfather was named Daniel, it seems more likely that Charles would be given the middle name "Daniel", and not "David". (d) Ancestry.com lists a social security claim in 1938 for "Charley Daniel Bohnstedt" under the Social Security # 488-16-2395
*2. A 1910 census record from Rogers County Missouri lists a daughter; Nellie, with the family. However, Charles and Abbey were married in 1907, but Nellie's age is listed as 8 years, which means she was born in 1902, about 5 years before Charles and Abbey were married. This might indicate that Nellie was either Abbey's daughter from a previous relationship, or that she was the product of Charles's marriage to Lora Obanion. I personally do not believe this is correct because Charles' son, Obaed Daniel, was not listed on the census. Obaed was only 7 years old in 1910, so Charles and Lora may have separated and she took her youngest child, Obaed, with her. That means that Nellie was almost certainly Abbey's daughter.
*3. Willie Earll was the brother of Nona Earll. Nona Earll married Nellie's brother Carl Newton Bohnstedt.
*4. Annie Susana's name was derived from two sources; a 1910 census record (G170) which lists a child, "Annie S.", 2 years old, and a death certificate for Susana Bohnstedt (S19), born in 1908.
*5. Charles William (1913) and a baby girl (1914) were produced by Charles Daniel "Charley" and Anna May Bohnstedt, Clint Bohnstedt's wife. Charles and Ann (Anna) Clark may not have been married when they had children. A birth certificate for an unnamed female child lists Anna Clark as the maiden name of the mother, and Charles D. Bohnstedt as the father. However no marriage record or mention of marriage for Charles and Anna have ever been found. Even so, given the time period, even if the child had been a product of a tryst between Charles and Anna, it seems unlikely that Charles would have been listed as the father if Anna had still been married to Charles' brother George and living with him. On the other hand, the death certificate for George Clinton Bohnstedt in 1925 lists him as "widowed" rather than divorced. This leaves open the possibility that Anna and Clint had been separated but not divorced when she had the unnamed child with Charles, and that she had been living with Charles, but still legally married to Clint when he died. *2. A Social Security claims record for Fontella allegedly states her date of birth as being June 1924. However, this conflicts with Ruby's date of death, which is also in 1924, according to a social security claim record. These two girls were not twins, therefore one, or both of the records is wrong. However, this information was taken from Ancestry.com, which did not provide an image of the original form in either case. Both of the actual records would need to be examined to see where the error was made. Despite this the records for both claims reference father Carl N. Ivan's grandson, Al Veston Bohnstead, thought that his grandfather's name was Ivan Virgil Bohnstedt, but he was not completely certain of his information. Information later obtained by Lois Branch revealed that Ivan's name was not Ivan Virgil Bohnstedt, but instead was Ivan Aug Bohnstedt.
*2. A date of Ivan's death - 19 Aug, 1923 - was picked up by Lois Branch from information in Ancestry.com, which was posted by a descendant of Ivan's daughter, Edith. The date has not yet been corroborated by documentation. But if correct, it means that Bertie conceived before Ivan died, since their last child was born in Dec 1923. However, we do have some circumstantial evidence: (1) on a marriage license for Bertie in her marriage to her second husband in 1924, she is listed as "Mrs. Bertie Bohnstedt", emphasis on "Mrs." (2) Ivan Bohnstedt does not show up on any 1930 census we have found yet, or any other document post-dating 1923. A discussion with Tammie Loescher, a granddaughter of Edith (Ivan's youngest daughter) revealed that according to anecdotal information handed down from her grandmother, Ivan died before his youngest daughter Edith was born.
*3. After Ivan died about 1923 Bertie married Rush Murrah in 1924. She later married Orlin B. Cartwright, and died with the last name of Cartwright.
