Genealogy and Records 4-8:
More Bohnstedts in AmericaIn addition to the Bohnstedt, Bohnstadt and Bonstedt families in America described in Part IV, these families and individuals were discovered in various records. Their connections with other Bohnstedt families remain speculative.
I've arranged the individuals and families into two main groups. The first group are those that were found in or near Muskingum County, Ohio, and Richland County Illinois, and therefore have a high probability of being related to the American Bohnstedt family from Johann Gottlieb Bohnstedt. The second group are random Bohnstedts found elsewhere in the United States, and have an unknown origin, or an origin that makes their relationship to the American Bohnstedts less likely.
During the past few years I have from time to time found connections between some of the "Lost Bohnstedts" in this section and the larger Bohnstedt family in Part 3. My eventual goal is to have this entire section, or as much of it as possible, cleared out, with everybody here placed back into whichever family group they belong to.

baby Bohnstedt
[?], bn: c.1878 in Richland County, Illinois.
*1. Family table number was 4-9-1030 in the 1998 printed edition
2. The baby's Father's name was allegedly Gotlieb Bohnstedt, 33 years old, born in Germany, circa 1845. Who this Gotlieb Bohnstedt was remains unknown as his year of birth does not match that of any other known Bohnstedt male in America with the name Gottlieb or Gotlieb. The father's name could be in error. There was a baby girl born in 1878 in Richland County Illinois to Ludwig "Lewis" Bohnstedt and his wife Anna. We believe the child was either stillborn or died shortly after birth. The mother, Anna, also died about 1878, lead us to believe that the mother may have died during delivery or shortly after. The baby is buried with Anna. In addition to the difference in the father's names, Lewis was born in 1851.sr: S1

Charles Bohnstedt
M, bn: [?] / i: 1852 from Germany, settled in Muskingum County Ohio.
Children:
1. Charles (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: [?] / i: Came to America in 1852 with Charles Sr. and settled in Muskingum County, Ohio1. I personally believe that these two men - Charles Bohnstedt and Charles Bohnstedt Jr. - were father and son. Furthermore I believe that they were actually Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt I and Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt II. My rationale for this is as follows:
(a) The assumption about them being father and son is that when these two names were recorded in 1852 one of them was specifically recorded as "Charles Bohnstedt Jr."
(b) Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt II was known by the Anglicized name of "Charles". Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt I was sometimes referred to by his German name of "Carl", but he was just as often, if not more often, known as "Charles", as evidenced by an 1848 ship's passenger list for the "Pioneer", an 1850 census of Muskingum County, Ohio, and an 1860 census of Clark County Illinois. Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt II was also known as "Charles".
(c) If these two men entered the United States under the names "Charles Bohnstedt" instead of "Carl Bohnstedt" (having come from Germany) it would indicate that they had already spent time living outside Germany where they adopted Anglicized names.
(d) I can find no other individuals by the name of "Charles Bohnstedt" in Muskingum County during that time period.
(e) I can find no other Bohnstedt families in Muskingum County Ohio, or anywhere else in the U.S. which could have been descendants of these men.
(f) I can find no other Bohnstedt families in Muskingum County Ohio, or anywhere else in the U.S. which could have been descendants of these men.
-
I personally believe that these two were Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt I & II, that they left the United States in 1852, perhaps to conclude some unfinished business in Germany, and then returned to their home and family in Muskingum County Ohio. In 1852 Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt I was about 52 years old, and his son, Johann Carl Christian Bohnstedt II, was about 23 years old, and was still unmarried.

August Bohnstedt
M, bn: c.1836, Germany / p: Baker / i: Journeyed to America with his wife and two children in 1868. They left Bremen aboard the steamship 'SS Bremen' and landed in New York in 1868 // m: Alexandrene -?- / bn: c.1842 - 1843
Children:
1. Emilie (Bohnstedt) / F, bn: c.1865, Germany
2. -?- (Bohnstedt) / M, bn: 1867, Germany*1. There was some initial confusion when this record was first noticed, and it was tempting to try to connect this August Bohnstedt with August Georg Wilhelm Ludwig Bohnstedt. Both were named August, both emigrated to America about the same time (This August in 1868, August GWL Bohnstedt in 1867), both were bakers, and both traveled with daughter Emilie. However, the similarities stop there. This August was born about 1836, whereas August GWL Bohnstedt was born near the turn of the century (most records point to 1801 or close to it). This August also traveled with his wife Alexandrene, and another child. August traveled aboard the SS Bremen, but August GWL traveled on the "Orpheus". It seems obvious that these are two different families, but how this August is related to other Bohnstedt family lines is unknown.

However, she does appear in the 1920 census as Ruth Bohnstedt, living with an elderly woman, aged 62, named Mary A Heinzman. It does not appear that she died young since she appears with other family members in a 1921 directory, all working for NW Bell Telephone Co. in Omaha Nebraska. She would have been about 18 years old at the time. A marriage record from Sterling Colorado shows "Lloyd Langley" married to "Ruth H. Bohnstedt". I haven't been able to find any other "Ruth Bohnstedt" that would fit this person.

F, bn: 16 August, 1973Notes: These people were found in a public record in San Antonio Texas at 4310 Tallulah Dr, San Antonio, TX, 78218. So far I haven't found any other records for any of these people, and the original pages of these public records were not available for viewing online, so I haven't been able to verify whether these names are accurate. This is most likely just bad transcription. After further investigation it was found that these people had no connections to Bohnstedts at all, and this was due to a gross error in transcription. The names were actually Henry P. Gomez, Julia Cisneros, and daughter Jennifer Cisneros Gomez.

Vivian stated that the two children do not have any actual biological relationship to the Bohnstedt family.

*2. Records in the national archives related to this individual indicate that there was a dispute within the Army about the nature of Charles Bohnstedt's injury; Charles testified on his pension declaration that that he ruptured himself falling from a railroad car.
