Bohnstedts in Brazil
Unfortunately there is little that can be said about this Bohnstedt family line at this time. The only thing that is known about the lineage Bohnstedt family in Brazil at the time of this writing is that their ancestor, Rolf, came from Germany sometime before 1939-1940. Fabio Bohnstedt of Indaiatuba, Brazil, who descended from this small family branch, gave me some information about his family several years ago, but apparently he did not know very much about his ancestry. He told me that as far as he knew, his grandfather, Rolf Wilhelm Bohnstedt, migrated to Brazil to get away from the Second World War.

My understanding of written Portuguese is even more limited than my understanding of Spanish, but the title refers to a wave of immigration from Germany to Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil in 1826. Henrique BohnstedtI have not obtained a complete copy of this work, so it was not clear to me whether all of these people immigrated to Brazil, or whether these were some of the descendants of one Bohnstedt/Bohnstaedt who migrated to Brazil in 1826. Regardless of this, it seems clear, based on information from Fabio Bohnstedt, that his family line began with Fabio's grandfather, who migrated to Brazil from Germany sometime in the 1930's.

During another random cruise through the internet, keeping my eyes open for items of interest, I came across the following: An immigration document, complete with photograph, of Robert Carl Fredrik Bohnstedt von Horn, relocating to Brazil. This was ringing a bell in my memory somewhere, and I don't mean because of the Bohnstedt name. I mean it was ringing a bell because of the name "von Horn". Then I remembered where I can seen it; in the Swedish Bohnstedt family. Von Horn was a Swedish "untitled" noble family, and one of them, Leopold Robert von Horn, married Selma Elisabet Marianne von Bohnstedt, from Swedish noble family # 2334. One of the products of this union was Robert Carl-Fredrik Bohnstedt von Horn. For some reason, which is not clear, Leopold and Selma's other children did not carry the Bohnstedt name as a middle name, at least as far as we know. But we know that Robert did, and we also know that Robert went to Brazil in 1957. He wasn't going for a vacation; he was emigrating - relocating for the long term. At this time we don't know why he left Europe to go to Brazil. It was tempting to try to make a connection, but I suspect that Robert did not start a new Bohnstedt line in Brazil. As mentioned above, other Bohnstedts left Germany for Brazil as far back as the 1800's. In the case of Fabio Bohnstedt's ancestor, Rolf Bohnstedt, from whom some Brazilian Bohnstedts have an established lineage, left Germany and went to Brazil in or about 1940.
Note: as an example of the low reliability of Wikipedia as an accurate source of information; one article on Swedish noble families lists the Bohnstedt family as Swedish Noble family No. 2335. This is most likely not correct. Every other source lists the Bohnstedt noble family as Bohnstedt (or von Bohnstedt), # 2334.

During the past few months I reestablished contact with Fabio Bohnstedt in Indaiatuba, Brazil, near São Paolo. The contact was established through Facebook. I also made contact with some other Bohnstedts in Brazil, including Wanderlei L. Bohnstedt. Fabio had originally told me that his grandfather was Rolf Böhnstedt. Rolf and his wife, Maria Steidle, were born in Germany, and immigrated to Brazil. Wanderlei told me that his paternal grandparents were Wilhelm "Guilherme" Böhnstedt and Lina Reinhardt, and they were born in Germany. Wanderlei also told me that his great-grandparents were Frederico (Friedrich) and Carolina Bohnstedt. I could not find any connection between Fabio's grandparents and Wanderlei's grandparents, and I began to think that there were two different Bohnstedt families in Brazil.

This is very strong evidence that Wanderlei Bohnstedt and Fabio Bohnstedt are related as Second cousins, which means that the families of these two men are also related through Friedrich "Frederico" and Carolina Bohnstedt.

These two documents provide the best evidence that the two Bohnstedt lines in Brazil - one from Wilhelm "Guilherme" Bohnstedt/Böhnstedt and and the other from Rolf Bohnstedt/Böhnstedt - came from the same source: Friedrich "Friderico" and Karolina Bohnstedt: (1) The foreign registration of Wilhelm "Guilherme" Bohnstedt/ Böhnstedt (the father of Anni Marie, Ilse, Margarete and Wilhelm Anton Bohnstedt) lists "Friedrich" and "Karoline" as his father and mother. (2) The foreign registration of Rolf Bohnstedt (the father of Guinter Antonio Bohnstedt and Carlos Rolf Bohnstedt), which also lists Rolf's parents as "Friedrich" and "Karoline".
